New Bylaw In Oman To Govern Online Marketing & Promotion. Click To Read More…
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has introduced a new statute that will regulate business activities involving marketing and promotion via electronic websites and social media groups.
The bylaw, which aims to protect both businesses and consumers, requires those promoting products and services on social media to obtain a license from the Commercial Affairs and Electronic Trade Department of the Ministry.
However, the bylaw does not apply to individuals or businesses engaged in non-profit activities, such as charitable work or volunteering, or to individuals promoting their own products or services.
To obtain a license for e-promotion, individuals must complete a prescribed form and meet certain requirements. The application process for a license can be finalised within 15 days of the necessary documents being received by the authorised department.
If the application is approved, a three-year, renewable license will be issued to allow the applicant to carry out e-marketing and promotion activities. The bylaw will take effect 90 days after it is published in the Official Gazette.
