The Environment Authority continues to monitor the repercussions of the grounded ship incident near Al Qibliya Island, located within the Hallaniyat Islands archipelago in the Dhofar Governorate, and to carry out monitoring, surveying and environmental action in coordination with the concerned authorities. The Authority is using technical monitoring methods, satellite images and numerical models to track the movement of oil slicks and their spread to predict the possible locations of their arrival.

The authority explained in a statement that the monitoring results showed that some beaches in the Ras Madrakah area were affected by oil pollution, with the expectation that a coastal area that may reach a length of 40 kilometers in the same area will be affected, with the possibility that the southern beaches of Masirah Island will be affected during the coming hours with an area that may range from 10 to 20 kilometers in length, according to the current data. Meanwhile, the specialised teams are continuing the work of monitoring and responding and taking the necessary measures to limit its spread and reduce its potential effects, with priority given to areas of high environmental sensitivity.

The authority called on fishermen, visitors to coastal areas, and members of the community not to approach any materials or pollutants that are detected, and stressed the need to report them to the competent authorities, stressing that it will continue to monitor developments and announce any updates through official channels.
