Oman’s refinery production declines 6.8 percent to 89.91 million barrels in May 2026

The total output of refineries in the Sultanate of Oman declined 6.8 percent to 89,916,500 barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 96,521,600 barrels during the same period in 2025.

According to the latest preliminary statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), production of regular gasoline (M91) fell 7.8 percent to 6,813,600 barrels, down from 7,391,400 barrels a year earlier.

Sales of M91 gasoline declined 22.9 percent to 6,477,600 barrels, compared with 8,400,700 barrels in the corresponding period of 2025. In contrast, exports increased 21.7 percent to 1,883,400 barrels, up from 1,547,400 barrels.

Production of premium gasoline (M95) declined 2.4 percent to 5,493,300 barrels, compared with 5,630,300 barrels during the same period last year. Sales of M95 gasoline dropped 20.1 percent to 6,036,200 barrels, from 7,550,900 barrels, while exports fell 32.8 percent to 252,700 barrels, compared with 376,000 barrels.

Production of gas oil (diesel) decreased 8.1 percent to 29,924,500 barrels, compared with 32,573,900 barrels in the same period of 2025. Diesel sales declined 11.8 percent to 8,148,500 barrels, from 9,238,600 barrels, while exports fell 11.1 percent to 23,092,500 barrels, compared with 25,983,400 barrels.

In contrast, jet fuel production increased 5.5 percent to 11,727,100 barrels, up from 11,117,700 barrels. Jet fuel sales, however, fell 20.6 percent to 1,721,800 barrels, compared with 2,168,500 barrels, while exports rose 20.2 percent to 9,706,100 barrels, up from 8,075,300 barrels.

Production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) declined 5.8 percent to 4,529,900 barrels, compared with 4,810,800 barrels during the same period last year. LPG sales fell 21 percent to 1,293,800 barrels, down from 1,638,100 barrels. Exports, however, edged up 0.5 percent to 1,373,800 barrels, compared with 1,367,100 barrels.

Production of naphtha increased 2.2 percent to 15,603,200 barrels, compared with 15,263,000 barrels in the same period of 2025. Naphtha sales rose 7.6 percent to 5,950,600 barrels, from 5,530,200 barrels, while exports declined 8.1 percent to 9,258,300 barrels, compared with 10,073,300 barrels.

Production of other refinery products fell 19.8 percent to 15,824,800 barrels, compared with 19,734,600 barrels during the same period last year. Sales of other refinery products declined 32.4 percent to 12,166,600 barrels, from 18,006,800 barrels, while exports increased 4.0 percent to 4,412,100 barrels, compared with 4,242,500 barrels.

The statistics also showed that gasoline production increased 11.9 percent to 83,100 metric tonnes, compared with 74,300 metric tonnes during the same period in 2025. Gasoline exports rose 10.8 percent to 80,500 metric tonnes, up from 72,700 metric tonnes.

Paraxylene production increased to 272,000 metric tonnes, compared with 224,000 metric tonnes in the corresponding period of 2025. Exports rose 8.8 percent to 275,400 metric tonnes, up from 253,100 metric tonnes.

Meanwhile, polypropylene production declined 27.1 percent to 100,800 metric tonnes, compared with 138,200 metric tonnes during the same period last year. Despite lower production, polypropylene sales increased 15.3 percent to 15,800 metric tonnes, from 13,700 metric tonnes, while exports declined 29.8 percent to 77,100 metric tonnes, compared with 109,900 metric tonnes in the same period of 2025.
