Consulate Office of the Republic of South Africa opens in Muscat, enhancing bilateral relations
In a significant milestone for diplomatic and economic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of South Africa, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of South Africa was officially inaugurated in Muscat. The ceremony took place at the new consulate premises in Shati Qurum, in the presence of distinguished guests and members of the diplomatic community.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of HE Khalid bin Hashil Al Muslahi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Administrative and Financial Affairs. The ribbon was jointly cut by HE Khalid bin Hashil Al Muslahi, Her Excellency Lujaina Mohsin Darwish, Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Africa in the Sultanate of Oman, and HE Mogobo David Magabe, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Saudi Arabia, Non-resident Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.
The event was attended by distinguished Ambassadors to the Sultanate of Oman, several dignitaries from South Africa, members of the diplomatic corps, and prominent representatives from the business community. The opening of this new consulate marks an important step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation, fostering trade and investment, and strengthening people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Khalid commended the growing partnership between Oman and South Africa, emphasising the mutual commitment to deepening diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations.

In her address, Honorary Consul Lujaina Mohsin Darwish expressed her pride and gratitude for the opportunity to represent the Republic of South Africa in Oman. The inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of South Africa in the Sultanate of Oman was marked as an important step in strengthening the relationship between the two nations. The newly appointed Honorary Consul highlighted the long-standing commitment of Oman and South Africa to cooperation, cultural understanding, and shared progress. The consulate is positioned to support closer ties across trade, tourism, education, and culture, and to serve as a gateway for citizens of both countries. Appreciation was extended to the South African government and the leadership of Oman for their continued support. The message closed with a commitment to serve with dedication and unity as both nations work toward a brighter future.
HE Mogobo David Magabe, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Saudi Arabia & Non-resident Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, highlighted that the official launch of the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Muscat strengthens diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between South Africa and Oman. The consulate will support citizens, promote business connections, and foster people-to-people relations. The appointment of HE Lujaina Mohsin Darwish as Honorary Consul underscores a shared commitment to collaboration and future opportunities between the two nations.
During the opening ceremony, the official website of the Honorary Consulate of South Africa in Muscat was launched, along with the introduction of its social media page for public engagement. The newly established consulate will serve as a key point of contact for visa and consular services, providing support to South African citizens in Oman and facilitating collaboration between businesses and institutions in both countries. The consulate will operate Sunday to Thursday, from 9:30 am to 3:30pm, at Way No. 3017, Shati Qurum, Muscat.
The Republic of South Africa and the Sultanate of Oman share a long-standing relationship grounded in mutual respect and cooperation. Over the years, both countries have explored opportunities in trade, energy, mining, tourism, and education. The opening of the Honorary Consulate signifies a renewed effort to build upon this foundation and unlock new avenues of partnership for future growth.
