China Constructs Antarctic Outpost for Ross Sea Ecosystem Study

The People’s Republic of China completes construction on its fifth Antarctic research station, positioned on the west coast of the pristine Ross Sea.
The facility, covering 5,200 square meters on Inexpressible Island, is equipped to host 80 researchers in summer and 30 in winter.
Focused on studying the Ross Sea’s untouched marine ecosystem, the station will contribute valuable data on energy exchange, marine life, and global climate change.
The Ross Sea region boasts the world’s largest marine protected area, housing rare species and serving as vital breeding grounds.
The aim of this project is to monitor and protect this ecosystem, providing crucial insights into climate change impacts on Antarctic environments.
