‘Outpass’ Grace Scheme For Expats With Expired Work Permits Extended

Muscat: Expat laborers in the Sultanate with expired work permits can continue to leave by utilizing an ‘outpass’ during the grace period.
This comes after Oman’s Ministry of Labour extended the grace period for expats to leave the country without incurring any fines for overstaying on expired work visas until March 31, 2021.
Earlier, the Ministry had allowed expats to leave the country “for good” until December 31, 2020. It is understood that 57,487 workers had registered with their embassies to leave the country until November 15, 2020.
Procedures For Leaving The Country
- Non-Omani workers who have expired passports must visit their countries’ embassies in the Sultanate to renew their travel documents.
- They should then visit the Ministry of Labor’s office at Muscat International Airport to complete the departure procedures such as taking their travel documents, travel tickets, PCR certificate, as well as committing to the requirements of their destination country.
- Employers should update their data.
- Those who have claims should provide evidence to the specialised authorities within a week from the date of publishing the data of foreign workers who are wishing to leave on the ministry’s website.
