Environment Authority Inks MoU on Supporting 10m-Tree Initiative in Musandam
Khasab: The Environment Authority today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sohar Aluminium company on supporting the “National 10-million-tree Initiative” in the Governorate of Musandam.
The MoU seeks to develop degrading areas, safeguard biodiversity and augment green cover as a source of relaxation for society.
The MoU, signed under the auspices of Musandam’s Governor Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, was signed by Musallam Mubarak Al Mahri, Acting Director of the Environment Department in the Governorate of Musandam, and Ahmed Mohammed Al Kharousi, Sohar Aluminium’s General Manager, HR and Corporate Affairs.
According to the MoU, the company will meet financial obligations related to the planting of 100,000 tree in the Governorate of Musandam, as well as any other direct consultancy services, depending on the agreed budgets and cultivation sites.
The National 10-Million Tree Initiative, which lasts till 2030, seeks to improve plant cover and enhance natural resources, including grazing areas in depleting zones. It is also aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of green cover, both to the environment and society. It highlights the significance of social segments’ contribution to environment conservation and the economic potential of some species of local plants.
