More Than 19,000 Jobs Generated In Public, Private Sectors In First Half of 2021

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has said that a total of 19,023 jobs were generated in public and private sectors during the first six months of this year. Of this, 58.9% of vacancies were filled in accordance with the executive plan for the target set for 2021.
It also reflects the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Labour, which issued a set of procedures to regulate the labor market and develop human resources as per the declared plan.
As part of the employment opportunities unveiled, a total of 8,493 jobs were generated in the State’s Administrative Apparatus (government units) as follows: The Ministry of Education (3,381 jobs), the Ministry of Health (1,965 jobs), the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (292 jobs) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (175 jobs), while (2,680 jobs) went to other state units.
A report issued by the Labour Ministry, of which Oman News Agency (ONA) received a copy, indicates that 951 employment opportunities were generated in different sectors supervised by government authorities and units.
The report also states that 5,583 Omanis were appointed for the first time in the private sector. Of those 1,718 were holders of General Education Diploma (GED) or its equivalent, while 1,329 were holders of qualification below the GED, 1,813 were holders of university degrees, 638 were holders of university diplomas, and 40 postgraduate, Masters or Ph.D. degree holders.
In the meantime, 547 employment opportunities were generated through initiatives of the Ministry of Labour, and 3,449 jobs resulted from training and qualification through on-the-job training (the human resources development sector) and the SME entrepreneurship program.
