Sheikh Suhail Salim Bahwan, Chairman of the Suhail Bahwan Group (SBG) and one of Oman’s most influential business leaders, has passed away. His death marks the end of an era for the Sultanate’s private sector, where he played a pivotal role for more than five decades.
Widely regarded as one of the Arab world’s foremost industrialists, Sheikh Suhail Bahwan transformed a modest family venture into one of Oman’s most formidable business conglomerates.
The Suhail Bahwan Group, which he founded and led independently, evolved into one of the largest private-sector companies in the Sultanate. Today, SBG’s diversified portfolio spans automotive, fertilizers, petrochemicals, engineering and construction, ICT and telecommunications, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, consumer products and trading.
The group employs thousands of people and has established a presence across the Gulf and Asia, contributing significantly to Oman’s economic diversification beyond oil.
Under his leadership, SBG became a cornerstone of Oman’s industrial landscape, driving major investments in heavy industry, infrastructure and large-scale manufacturing. The company also expanded into high-impact sectors such as medical services and technology solutions, reinforcing its reputation as a national growth catalyst.
Beyond business, Sheikh Suhail Bahwan was deeply respected for his philanthropy and commitment to community development. He supported initiatives in education, healthcare and social welfare, earning widespread admiration for his dedication to national progress and social upliftment.
Sheikh Suhail Bahwan’s passing leaves a profound void in Oman’s business community. His legacy – built on entrepreneurial vision, resilience and a lifelong commitment to the nation’s development – will continue to shape the Sultanate of Oman’s economic story for generations to come.
