Oman’s First Carbon – Neutral LNG Cargo To Be Delivered By Oman LNG

Muscat: As a testament to Oman’s commitment to clean energy, Oman LNG has signed an important agreement with Shell to deliver the Middle East’s first carbon-neutral cargo from Oman LNG’s facility in Sur.

The cargo, which is to be delivered to the Middle – East region. These nature-friendly projects are aimed at enabling the environment to add Oxygen while absorbing the ever-rising levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. With most natural gas products shipped from economies that are not carbon–neutral, Oman is pulling all measures to achieve a net Carbon Neutral economy by 2040.

Commenting on this milestone, Talal al-Awfi Oman LNG’s Chairman stated, “We are delighted to deliver Sultanate’s first LNG carbon-neutral cargo. This forward-looking step reflects Oman LNG’s commitment to be a pioneer in decarbonisation, which complements the Sultanate’s Vision ‘Oman 2040’, on the environmental preservation front. Oman LNG will continue its journey delivering world-class business performance, safety, efficiency, and decarbonisation efforts. Great to achieve this milestone.”

Meanwhile, Hamed al Naamany, CEO of Oman LNG commented, “Oman LNG has taken major steps over the past few years such as introducing new technologies and replacing machines to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Our role in protecting and restoring natural ecosystems could play an important role in limiting global warming. These changes ultimately ensure the efficiency and sustainability of our plant and machinery.”

Additionally, he exclaimed, “Using high-quality nature-based offsets for Oman LNG’s first carbon-neutral LNG cargo offering is a testimony of our commitment to the environment, and our focus on decarbonisation. We continue to be amongst the top quartile of the premium LNG market, and aim to remain in this position post-2025.”

Walid Hadi, VP Oman and Shell Country Chair added, “Shell is proud to partner with Oman LNG on its journey in support of the energy transition. As a shareholder and technical service provider, we have been supporting OLNG to reduce its own GHG emissions from operations, and today’s announcements for the first carbon-neutral LNG cargo from Oman further strengthens the deep partnership between OLNG and Shell.”
