Sohar Islamic Unveils Student Proposition

Muscat: Providing banking that fulfils the various needs of the society, Sohar Islamic introduces its new “Student Account”. Designed to complement the lifestyle of the local youth community, the account seeks to provide a host of benefits to the students within the country as well as contribute towards financial inclusion.
Commenting on introducing the Student Account, Mr. Abdul Wahid Al Murshidi, Chief Islamic Banking Officer, said, “The young generation is the country’s most prized asset and represents the future of the nation. It is, therefore, our duty to ensure that they receive the right financial support, assistance, and empowerment to achieve their aspirations. Sohar Islamic believes in nurturing long-term relationships with its customers and the Student Account is an excellent way for students to begin acquainting themselves with dedicated banking products and services. Giving students the opportunity to monitor, control, and manage their finances on a daily basis leads to the inculcation of more prudent spending, saving, and investment habits. This will also go a long way in promoting financial independence.”
Earlier this year, Sohar Islamic signed a cooperation agreement with GTS Alive Middle East, the exclusive regional representative for the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), to provide student account holders with opportunities and benefits complimenting their life style with exclusive offers from over 100 merchants locally. The agreement signing came in line with the bank’s efforts to enhance the overall offering and add more value to the customer.
Sohar Islamic’s new Student Account has numerous features, privileges, and perks that are designed to suit the dynamic needs of students. With a deeper understanding of what students value most, it offers exclusive discounts at restaurants, cafes, electronic stores, and other fashion and retail outlets. Giving students more flexibility, it has free cash withdrawals from any bank ATM in Oman waiving off all minimum balance fees and zero debit card annual fees. These uniquely designed debit cards, which are equipped with the ‘Tap and Pay’ feature, can also be instantly issued, thus, making the process even more efficient and quick.
Sohar Islamic, through the Student Account, seeks to instil in the youth ethical financial habits, a savings mindset, and a sense of discipline when it comes to budgeting their finances. Students interested in opening the new account can simply head towards any of the Sohar Islamic branches with the necessary documentations that consist of ID card and a valid university or college student card. The branch, having processed the documents can then open the account and issue the debit card instantly.
