The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has announced new regulations on ship and port security under Ministerial Resolution No. 423/2024. These measures aim to enhance maritime safety to the highest standards.
Grounded in Maritime Law No. 19/2023 and aligned with international agreements, the regulations establish a robust framework to ensure the security and safety of maritime operations in the Sultanate of Oman.
Captain Majid Saif Al Barhi, Director General of Maritime Affairs at the Ministry, explained, “The new regulation stems from our commitment to developing security transition plans in accordance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.”
He elaborated that the regulations encompass a range of measures to align with global standards for ship and port security. They mandate ships and ports to prepare and execute integrated security plans, based on thorough risk assessments and advanced control mechanisms, to bolster maritime safety.
Captain Al Barhi further emphasised the importance of creating a comprehensive monitoring and inspection system to ensure compliance with international security standards.
