Local Sweets Factory Emerges As World’s 3rd Largest Unit
Salalah: The volume of the daily output of Al Jood Food Factory, which specialised in the production of sweets and liquid tahini, stood at 100 tonnes, making the unit the third largest factory of its kind in the world.
Dr Bassam Houmani, General Manager of Al Jood Food Factory in Salalah, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Sultanate in general (Dhofar Governorate in particular) is considered a promising zone of attraction for investments and different businesses, thanks to the country’s strategic location at the meeting point of international trade routes.
Set up in May 2019, Al Jood Food Factory began production within five months, said Dr Bassam, noting that the Omani product boasts criteria capable of competing in the global market. “Leaning on our known expertise in special-quality material, we have a plan to produce various types of sweets of different sizes for the wholesale and retail markets,” Dr Bassam added. He said that 75 per cent of the factory’s production is exported to Yemen, a high demand area, and the rest to other markets in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Poland.
