Oman Air takes cue from global airlines, bans certain MacBook Pros
You will no longer be able to carry certain 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops in Oman Air’s checked-in baggage, according to a press release issued by the airline yesterday.
The Oman Air decision follows that of several other global airlines and follows an Apple recall of certain models. In a statement, the airline said that it would be prohibiting the carriage of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro models, manufactured by Apple, in checked luggage, keeping in mind the overall safety of both the passengers and the crew.
Advising its guests to visit Apple’s MacBook Pro battery recall programme page to get more information, the airline, in its statement, said, “Guests are to refrain from bringing the affected models in checked baggage. They may be allowed as hand-carry provided it remains switched off throughout the flight, protected from accidental activation, and not to be charged during flight.”

Apple had earlier issued a statement on a voluntary recall of a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, which were sold between September 2015 and February 2017. According to the company, these were being recalled because of a safety risk that might be caused by a battery overheating issue. It further added that these laptops could be identified by their serial number and the battery would be replaced free of cost.
