In Focus: The Journey, Growth & Expansion Strategy Of Techno Plastic Industry In Oman
Techno Plastic Industry intends to raise annual production of polypropylene goods to more than 12,000 metric tonnes and expand the company’s local and international distributorship network, says CEO Eng. Omar Ahmed Salim Qatan in an interview with Oommen John P.
Q) Can you share with us Techno Plastic Industry LLC’s success story in Oman?
Since 1998, Techno Plastic Industry LLC “TECHNO” has been one of the most dependable businesses for the production and manufacture of premium PPR pipes, a system for supplying hot and cold water to businesses, homes, and public buildings. Today, we offer a wide range of single-layer, multi-layer pipes of all kinds and pipe connections throughout the Middle East and Africa. In 2006, the company increased its annual manufacturing capacity to 4,500 metric tonnes, and in 2015, a new factory with an 8,000-tonne annual production capacity was built.
The Al Rusail factory was relocated to Sohar Industrial Area to meet the growing demand for products, which improved storage and increased annual production capacity by 3,500 metric tonnes. Moving to Sohar has also made it easier to export TECHNO products to international markets by providing additional modes of transportation such as ports and airports. In 2018, we accomplished centralising the manufacturing warehouse, the main offices, a storage and distribution center in Al Rusail, and the Dubai office to export to Africa and the Middle East.
In 2021, new products were introduced, developing multi-layer pipes that withstand temperatures of up to 95 degree Celsius and pressures of up to 65 bar. Currently, we plan to achieve and increase the annual manufacturing capacity of polypropylene products in the TECNO plant to 12,000 metric tons in the upcoming years. A wide range of residential pipeline products and connections, as well as facilities for the waste, soil, and sewage system, the fire sprinkler system, and the gas line system, are all part of this future plan’s objectives.
Q) As the first manufacturer of PPR pipes and fittings in Oman, what sets the company apart from its competitors?
We have extensive industry knowledge, capacity to supply goods quickly, prioritise the needs of our clients, and are dedicated to providing the best products available. TECHNO is focused on three main areas: quality, innovation and value:
– Quality: Aims at delivering world-class quality for products
– Innovation: Manufacturing new products using cutting-edge technologies
– Value & excellence: in HSE standards that satisfy clients in every way. These guidelines opened the road for TECHNO and helped it become the best factory for the PPR pipeline system in the Middle East and Africa.
Q) What is driving the growth of the business in Oman and other markets?
The expansion of residential and commercial projects and the demand for the product in the market are what propel business growth, whether in the Sultanate of Oman or other markets. We recognise and respect the market’s desire for more dependability and higher quality. We also possess a depth of industrial understanding and the capacity for quick delivery. Our customers’ needs come first, and we always promise to provide the best on the market. We consider all of these factors, allowing us to reach the broadest range of clients in the local and international community and offer the most useful solutions for pipes.

Q) What are the best practices that the company brings to the piping solutions industry?
The company first studies the market need for the product and collects information about the needs of consumers and their preferences for the most commonly used products. The company also implements awareness workshops for engineering consulting offices, construction companies, and plumbers on knowing the types of products and their applications. Furthermore, the company trains plumbers on the right way to weld pipes and avoid technical issues. It also invites distributors, engineering companies and plumbers to visit the company factory to understand the manufacturing process and provide all technical information about the products. The company is committed to research and development in order to offer the products with technical and usable solutions.
Q) What are the strategic initiatives that the company is focusing in the next few years to expand its footprint?
Quality is an integral part of manufacturing anything and everything. At Techno, we strive to continue offering items that are guaranteed to be of a higher caliber while also being more durable and reliable. Additionally, we want to raise annual production of polypropylene goods to more than 12,000 metric tonnes. We seek to expand the company’s local and international distributorship network as well as enhance sales by breaking into new international markets. We aim to increase awareness about how to use our products and spread the “TECHNO” brand in the local market.
Q) How successful is the company’s Omanisation strategy to train and develop local talents?
Omani youth have proven that they are able to better serve their country. Additionally, young people in Oman have shown that they are very responsible and conscious of their own personal growth. As a result, manufacturing output as well as sales on both the domestic and global markets have increased. The Omanisation strategy has been effective in enabling Omani citizens to expand the “Techno” brand globally and access foreign markets. Omanis have also demonstrated their effectiveness, proficiency, and excellence within the organisation. A strong guarantee for the business and the nation is provided by our investment in young Omani people. In my opinion, when Omanis are given confidence and enough room to work, the outcomes will be outstanding.
