Passengers in Sultanate’s Airports Touch 3.72 Million
Muscat: The total number of passengers travelling through airports in the Sultanate (Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm) at the end of July 2020 reached 3.72 million passengers.
Meanwhile, the number of flights landing and departing from Muscat, Salalah and Sohar International Airports at the end of July 2020 reached 26,405 flights, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total number of passengers at Muscat International Airport fell by 64.2 per cent to 3.34 million passengers at the end of July 2020, over the same period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the total number of flights at Muscat International Airport also fell by 59.7 per cent to 27,103 flights at the end of July 2020, from 67,309 flights for the same period of 2019.
The number of international flights at Muscat International Airport was 24,792 flights at the end of July 2020, falling 59.6 per cent over the same period of 2019. Meanwhile, the total number of international passengers at the Muscat International Airport fell by 64.4 per cent at the end of July 2020, reaching 3.10 million passengers. This included 1.50 million passenger arrivals, 1.59 million passenger departures, and 6,435 passenger transits.
Domestic flights witnessed a decline too at Muscat International Airport; falling by 60.6 per cent to 2,311 flights at the end of July 2020, against 5,867 flights for the same period of 2019. The arrival and departure of domestic flights also dropped by 60.9 per cent and 60.3 per cent, respectively.
The total number of domestic passengers at Muscat International Airport fell by 61.2 per cent to 246,758 passengers at the end of July 2020, against 635,905 passengers for the same period of the previous year. This included 122,536 passenger arrivals and 124,222 passenger departures, the NCSI report showed.
According to the report, the total number of passengers at the Salalah International Airport fell by 61.6 per cent to 292,703 passengers at the end of July 2020 compared to 761,662 passengers for the same period of 2019.
The total number of flights at Salalah International Airport fell by 62.1 per cent to 2,480 flights compared to 6,548 flights in July 2019.
The total number of international flights at the Salalah International airport also fell by 61.1 per cent to 1,079 flights at the end of July 2020, while the number of domestic fights fell by 62.9 per cent to 1,401 flights.
The total number of international passengers fell by 59.3 per cent to reach 120,232 passengers, while the number of domestic passengers also fell by 63 per cent to 172,471 passengers.
Meanwhile, the total number of passengers at Sohar International Airport fell by 59.6 per cent to 68,714 passengers for the period under study compared to 170,006 passengers for the same period of 2019. The total number of flights at Sohar International Airport also fell 63.1 per cent to 534 flights at the end of July 2020 compared to 1,446 flights in July 2019.
Duqm Airport saw a drop in the total number of domestic passengers by 55.7 per cent to 14,539 passengers at the end of July 2020 compared to 32,813 passengers for the same period of 2019. The total number of flights at Duqm Airport until the end of July 2020 reached 154, which is a drop of 57 per cent compared to 358 flights in 2019, the report showed.
