“It’s a No From Me”: X-Factor Axed After a 17-Year Run
How did a global reality TV Show that gave us talents like One Direction, Little Mix, Leona Lewis, JLS, and the like get voted out of showbiz?
Every Saturday and Sunday, tens of millions of people watch ITV with their friends and family, because people who want to become pop stars fight for their 15-minute fame.
However, in recent years, the number of viewers has almost halved, and this week ITV confirmed that the show has no plans to return. Its creator, Simon Cowell, turned his attention to a new music panel called Walk The Line, while the channel owner focused on fresher formats, such as The Masked Singer.
In other words, when The X Factor was launched in 2004, no one had a smartphone or had access to YouTube, TikTok, or Twitter.
“So in terms of Saturday night entertainment, this is one of the only shows with FOMO [fear of missing out],” Cowell said.
“Even if I hate it, even if I think it’s a bit artificial, I know that more than 10 million people in the UK are watching it, and it has a multi-generational appeal.”
This is the cultural power of the show, from 2005 to In 2008, every Christmas first place was provided by the X Factor star, whether it was Shane Ward or Alexandra Burke. However, there is a reaction to the seemingly predetermined success of the contestants.
So it is safe to say that the Pandemic has opened more creative avenues for pop-culture and for new talents to rise to fame by putting traditional/conventional media out of demand. Is this a temporary fix or permanent debt, we shall know when we cross that bridge!
