Iran has announced the conclusion of technical talks with the United States in Switzerland, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, as part of broader negotiations to end the war and agree on arrangements for upcoming discussions, said Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister and chief Iranian negotiator today.

Four working groups have been established to address sanctions relief, nuclear issues, reconstruction and economic development, and monitoring and implementation, Iran’s IRNA news agency quoted Gharibabadi as saying.

Based on high‑level understandings and the final statement of the talks, it was also agreed to establish a contact point between member states, a memorandum of understanding on the safe passage of commercial vessels through regional maritime routes, and a conflict prevention unit for Lebanon, he added.

The technical talks also pursued a general license for the sale of Iranian oil, petrochemicals and related services, along with understandings on the release of frozen assets, Gharibabadi said.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that the US-Iran memorandum of understanding would lead to a long-term agreement after 60 days of technical, contributing to international and regional peace and stability.

Sharif told parliament that Pakistan had made significant efforts to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation, with technical talks set to continue over the next 60 days.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, visiting Islamabad today, will discuss new avenues for bilateral cooperation, the ongoing diplomatic engagement after the memorandum, and regional and international developments, Sharif said.

The first round of high‑level talks at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland ended with a roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days, paving the way for immediate technical discussions.

US Vice President JD Vance said the talks had laid a “solid foundation for a successful final agreement” to end the conflict, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi welcomed the progress but said the first real test would be how the new conflict resolution cell operates.
