Tender For 100 MW Green Energy Project In South Of Oman To Be Launched Towards Year End
Muscat: A tender for a 100 MW green mega project will be launched towards the end of this year. The project, planned in South Oman, will be second wind energy-based project, following on the heels of the successful wind farm at Harfeel, Dhofar. The wind farm was launched in 2019, backed by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the recently established subsidiary of PDO – Energy Development Oman (PDO)
The current project is in the engineering design phase. Zahran al Abri, In Country Valuation (ICV) Manager at PDO, commented, “We are looking at establishing a wind-based renewable project to produce about 100MW of power. We have already awarded the feasibility study and selected a technical advisor as well. Now at the moment, we are just completing the engineering work, and this might come on the market towards the end of this year.”
The announcement was made by al Abri during a presentation on behalf of PDO and EDO during a webinar conducted on Monday titled, ‘Connecting the Netherlands to Oman’s Business Opportunities’. The online event, organised by Business Gateways International, was supported by Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) and the Government of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
The contract for conducting a feasibility study was awarded to Tractebel-Engie — a leading player in the global renewable energy space with Worley, international engineering specialists for the energy, chemicals and resources sectors being named as the technical advisors for the project.
The project is aimed for a 2023 launch in tandem with other planned green energy projects in the North of Oman.
