UAE Teacher Among Those Shortlisted For Global Teacher Prize 2020

In a nod to one of the world’s most noble professions, the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, in partnership with UNESCO, has announced its shortlist for this year and a teacher from UAE has made it to the shortlist.
Mohamed Mohtady Mohamed, a Special Needs teacher with Anas bin Al Nadr School for Basic and Secondary Education, Fujairah, has been included in the top 50 for the coveted prize, which carries a US$1 million reward and is the largest prize of its find.
Mohamed, who has been shortlisted for the Global Teacher Prize 2020, was selected from over 12,000 candidates from over 140 countries around the world.
Mohamed tackles the difficult task of teaching boys from sixth to twelfth grade at a school in a remote area of Fujairah by taking a unique one-on-one approach to each student, depending on their individual learning capacities.
A proud member of the UAE teacher training team, he works together with other teachers by sharing his knowledge and furthering the government’s objective of improving education through a modern approach.
What is the Global Teacher Prize
The Global Teacher Prize, now in its sixth year, recognises the one teacher, who has made an exemplary contribution to the profession. The Prize, which has partnered with UNESCO to ensure teachers are right at the top of governments’ agendas, also throws the spotlight on the role of teachers in shaping the society’s future.
The top 50 shortlisted teachers are narrowed down to ten finalist teachers by a Prize Committee, with that result announced in June 2020. The winner will then be chosen from these ten finalists by the Global Teacher Prize Academy. All ten finalists will be invited to London for the Award ceremony at the Natural History Museum on October 12 2020.
