Mohsin Haider Darwish (1934-2018)
Mohsin Haider Darwish Al Zaabi who passed away on 10th January 2018 was the founder and the chief architect of Mohsin Haider Darwish (MHD) group, one of Oman’s largest business conglomerates. He was a businessman with amazing foresight and sound analytical and practical skill. For the past six decades, he led the company remarkably to make it a force to reckon with in the Sultanate. The pace at which the organisation has grown is an indication of his phenomenal business acumen.
The family business was converted to its present form of a corporate entity in 1987. Over the decades, the company has witnessed phenomenal progress, helped by strategic planning and professional management. The growth of the company has kept pace with the tremendous progress the Sultanate of Oman has achieved under the wise and able leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
MHD LLC., with varied interests in trading, contracting, projects and manufacturing, has been successful in enriching people’s lives by sourcing the most reputed international brands from across the world and making them available to discerning customers in the Sultanate of Oman.
Multifaceted
Darwish held important positions in the banking, insurance and manufacturing sectors, contributing to the export of Omani manufactured products across the MENA region, as well as providing training and employment to the national workforce.
He also played a vital role in the development of nation, and by Royal Decree was chosen as member of the Consultative Council from 1981 to 1985. He was a chosen member of the first Majlis A’Shura from 1991 to 1994; and chairman of its economic committee. He is the recipient of His Majesty’s Oman Medal Gr. III, award of appreciation, which was presented to him in 1990. He also received the most prestigious Gulf Excellence Award for the Best Omani Businessman of the Year in 2000.
