Galfar to set up 150,000sqm hub at Khazaen Economic City

Galfar Engineering and Contracting SAOG will set up its new 150,000sqm hub at the Khazaen Economic City, according to an announcement made recently.
The hub will host Galfar’s base workshop, labour accommodation, and other associated facilities and functions, apart from house ancillary units including a body shop, paint shop, auto store, electrical/battery shop, tire fitment shop, machine shop, carpentry shop, aluminium shop, scaffolding shop, and a portacabin fabrication facility.
Khalid Awadh al Balushi, CEO of Khazaen Economic City, said: “We have a designated district within Khazaen that is catered to meet the contractors and similar businesses’ requirements. Indeed, we are very much excited to have a leading contractor like Galfar as the first to move and establish its new hub in Khazaen.”
Dr Hans Erlings, CEO of Galfar Engineering and Contracting, also spoke about the proposed relocation and said: “Khazaen is strategically located in Barka at the centre of Oman’s newest road network — providing rapid connectivity across the Sultanate. This will enable Galfar to reach our sites and projects across Oman quickly and avoid the traffic congestion in the city of Muscat.”
Earlier in August, Galfar was awarded the first construction contract for Khazaen Economic City. This is the first construction contract to be awarded and worth OMR 9.2mn (US $24 million).
Khazaen is strategically located in Barka, between Muscat and Sohar, and will cover an area of 52 square kilometres in its first stage. The city will serve as Oman’s northern logistics hub, connecting a number of key development projects across the Sultanate via its extensive dry port facilities. Khazaen will also host dedicated areas for commercial, industrial, and residential use, whilst also providing the residents of the wider region with new health, education and leisure facilities.
