CC Energy Development Contributes To The Sustainable Transformation Of Oman’s Energy Sector
Muscat: CC Energy Development (CCED) has commenced execution of a flare Gas-to-Power project in the company’s Blocks 3 & 4 (Afar & Ghunaim) Operations on the eastern coast of Oman to further reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in pursuit of zero gas flaring ambitions by 2027. In collaboration with Aggreko, a leading provider of industrial energy solutions, CCED will replace diesel with unutilized associated gas, a byproduct of crude oil production, to generate electricity to power its field production assets, such as facilities, wells, and camps. Through leveraging cutting-edge technology and converting flare gas into a more sustainable power source, CCED is committed to contributing to Oman’s energy transition towards net-zero emissions and greener alternatives. This project is expected to result in a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Walter Simpson, Managing Director at CC Energy Development, said, “Our flare Gas-to-Power project positively impacts our operational efficiency while lowering our carbon and environmental footprint. We aim to lead by example as both sustainable practices and digital transformation continue to play a key role in the energy industry and beyond. This project will also support us in effectively managing waste resources, and, more importantly, its objectives are aligned with the Oman Vision 2040, of which carbon neutrality and combatting climate change are essential components.” He added, “By leveraging the latest technologies and smart solutions from stakeholders such as Aggreko, we are driving our company towards a major transformation as we adopt more sustainable, and low-carbon practices.”
Matt Parker, Managing Director at Aggreko AMEA, said, “Companies are placing a greater focus on sustainable practices and renewable energy sources. We are a trusted partner in flare gas-to-power projects and CC Energy Development chose to use our power solution to convert flared gas into greener electricity. As a result, we believe this project will pave the way for reducing the quantity of flared gas, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and converting gas into a more sustainable power source.”
Aggreko is an energy solutions partner providing customers with reliable, sustainable, affordable energy solutions. Thanks to a proven track record in flare gas -to-power projects, Aggreko is as a trusted partner of CCED. To reduce gas flaring and convert the flare gas into a more sustainable power source for CCED, Aggreko implemented a power solution using modern gas capture and conversion technologies. The company is responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of two independent gas power plants within the larger operational framework of CCED’s Blocks 3 and 4, utilising 33 MW of power at 33kV.
Meanwhile, CCED has a three-pronged approach to its environmental stewardship, and apart from greenhouse gas emissions reduction, the company also focuses on sustainable water and waste management. With this continued focus on sustainable practices, CCED is poised to cement further its position as a prominent player in the oil and gas industry, contributing to the nation’s energy security, economic prosperity, and net-zero objectives. Within this context, the flare Gas-to-Power project represents a win-win situation for all stakeholders: It is better for the environment, cuts diesel consumption and the risks associated with its transportation and is cost-efficient.
