Contract inked for construction of 35,000sqm OCA Suhar facilities

Oman Aviation Academy (OAA) and Dawood Contracting Company LLC recently signed a contract for the construction of the academy’s facilities at Suhar Airport.

The ceremony, held at Kempinski Hotel, saw Captain Abdullah Murad al Bulushi, CEO – OAA and Talal Ahmed al Shizawi, CEO – Dawood Contracting Company sign the contact.

According to a press release, Dawood Contracting Company will develop approximately 35,000sqm area, that will consist of the main building for the Academy, an aircraft maintenance hangar and taxiway, apron, campus facilities among others. The Academy facility will be built to high specifications and standards and will be equipped with the latest in aviation training technology.

Speaking at the event, Bulushi, said: “OAA is the first aviation training academy in the Sultanate of Oman that aims to provide the highest international standards for civil aviation in the Middle East and Africa region. Signing this contract is one of the major milestones of the Academy.”

Noting that OAA is currently training Oman Air cadets for the foundation programme in partnership with Sultan Qaboos University, the OAA CEO added that the academy will be ramping up efforts to attract more eager students from across the world to “promote Sultanate as one of the leading aviation training hubs in the region.”

OAA is Oman’s first national aviation training institution and is a joint venture between Airbus Helicopter, Oman National Investments Development Company SAOC (TANMIA), Al Hosn Investment Company and Ministry of Defence Pension Fund. Canada’s CAE, a leading training services provider for the global civil aviation industry, is a strategic partner in the development of the Academy in Suhar.
