Sohar International Conducts Investor Relations Meet Hosted by Muscat Stock Exchange
Muscat: Building strong corporate governance & following best international practices to enhance investor relations, Sohar International recently conducted a virtual Investor Meet hosted by Muscat Stock Exchange SAOC (MSX) to discuss and shine a light on the current operating environment, business strategy & the bank’s financial performance. Lead by Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International, the panelists representing the bank comprised of Mr. Khalil Al Hedaifi, Chief Retail Banking Officer, Mr. Craig Barrington Bell, Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Manish Dhameja, Chief Wholesale Banking Officer, and Mr. Abdul Wahid Al Murshidi, Chief Islamic Banking Officer.
The virtual meeting was hosted by Muscat Stock Exchange SAOC (MSX) and saw the attendance of a large number of investors, representations of various investment houses within the country, and members of the bank’s senior management.
Highlighting several areas during the meeting, Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International, said, “The bank’s long-term strategy is aimed at achieving excellence, setting the organization on a sustainable growth path, thereby contributing to the national economy aligning to the Sultanate’s goals. This will be based on steadfast resilience and the ability to nurture a sustainable operating economic environment. The bank continues to work closely with the regulators to ensure that its digitalization journey is well aligned and paves the way for a redefined banking experience while remaining operationally resilient throughout.”
Sohar International’s ability to continue its growth trajectory and deliver on its strategic imperatives is exemplified in the confidence that shareholders have in the Bank. This reaffirms the bank’s strengthening market position and investor confidence, despite a challenging operating environment. The strategic meeting cements Sohar International’s firm belief in establishing and retaining meaningful relations with its shareholders and investors whether locally, regionally, or internationally.

Sohar International’s total assets as of March 31, 2021, increased by 9.9% to RO 3,754 million compared to RO 3,416 million recorded on 31 March 2020. Net loans and advances increased by 2.8% to RO 2,531 million (31 March 2020: RO 2,461 million) reflecting the bank’s prudence in managing growth gave the current economic conditions. Customer deposits increased by 7.6% to RO 2,293 million compared to RO 2,131 million registered during the same period last year, reflecting the bank’s strengthening funding and liquidity position. Net profit for the three months ended March 31, 2021, increased by 13.1% to RO 6.98 million compared to RO 6.18 million during the same period in 2020. Operating income increased by 13.5% to RO 26.19 million, (31 March 2020: RO 23.07 million), driven by increases in other operating income streams including gain on sale of investment securities. The bank’s operating profit increased by 15.5% to RO 14.19 million compared to RO 12.29 million for the same period last year.
Sohar International has continuously endeavored to strengthen its relationship with the existing investors, conduct itself in a way that enhances shareholder value, and attracts more investors to be a part of its business by keeping abreast with evolving needs and socio-economic dynamics. The bank recently launched a dedicated investor relations portal as part of its corporate website, aimed at providing and distributing information about the Bank and its financial performance to existing and potential shareholders and to the public at large, at regular periodic intervals. The bank is determined to add value to its proposition for existing investors & shareholders and attract potential ones in the near future.
