SPEED AND POWER

The AMG Performance Tour 2015 at the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit in Abu Dhabi included an exclusive Middle East launch of two new cars, the Mercedes-AMG GT S and the new C 63 AMG. An OER Report.
With the most impressive line-up of Mercedes-AMG vehicles to date, the 2015 AMG Performance Tour generated as much adrenalin for drivers as the 15,300 horsepower unleashed around the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit in Abu Dhabi. In addition to the fleet of high performance Mercedes-AMG cars in this year’s exhilarating AMG Performance Tour, the debut of the much anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT S and brand new C 63 AMG models took place – facing each other as dynamic, powerful and poised as the heavyweight fighting machines they are. Taking place at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit where in 2014 the Mercedes AMG Petronas team won the F1 championship, the participants experienced the unrivalled thrill of testing the ‘driving performance’ of Mercedes-AMG vehicles in an environment that showcased the power, speed and agility of these exceptional machines. With unprecedented access to the world-class Formula 1 Grand Prix track, this year’s AMG Performance Tour included an impressive line-up of models: A 45 AMG 4MATIC, CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC, C 63 AMG Coupe, C 63 S, CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC, E 63 AMG 4MATIC, SL 63 AMG, S 63 AMG 4MATIC, S 63 AMG 4MATIC Coupe, ML 63 AMG, GL 63 AMG, G 63 AMG and the new Mercedes-AMG GT S.
Dirk Fetzer, director-sales and marketing, at Daimler Middle East and Levant said, “Getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG car is something that is as exhilarating the first time as it is for the 1,000th time. To have the chance to drive every model in the AMG portfolio, though, takes this exhilaration to a new level. Each AMG vehicle is an engineering masterpiece, beautifully crafted to deliver the best driving performance, and the AMG Performance Tour provides the perfect environment to demonstrate this.”
An annual event that is an unquestioned highlight on the calendars of AMG enthusiasts across the region, the 2015 AMG Performance Tour was attended by customers and media, and comprised a series of on-track events that allowed the participants to fully experience the ‘Driving Performance’ of AMG vehicles. To celebrate the racing heritage of Mercedes-AMG vehicles, the AMG Performance Tour 2015 included an exclusive Middle East launch of two new cars, the Mercedes-AMG GT S and the new C 63 AMG. Powered by AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engines, both contenders combined racetrack driving dynamics with superb everyday practicality and efficiency. In the left corner the new C 63 AMG with its outstanding longitudinal and lateral dynamics exemplified a powerful high-performance athlete with pure fascination and ultimate agility. In the right corner, the highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT S embodied the authenticity of a Mercedes-AMG sportcar contender with its first-class racetrack performance and daring, muscular looks. The power of both machines was unleashed and tested on track of Yas Marina Circuit shortly after the special launch.
“The AMG Performance Tour is particularly exciting for us this year, as we introduce these two new models to the Mercedes-AMG family. The new Mercedes-AMG GT S is a real dream car that has been highly anticipated by many thrill seeking motoring enthusiasts in the region, while the new C 63 AMG represents the ultimate AMG driving performance in a luxury sedan. We are confident that both models will be highly popular with AMG enthusiasts in the region,” added Fetzer.
The AMG brand enjoys more than 45 years of heritage in the world of motorsport and was originally established by former Mercedes-Benz engineers Aufrecht and Melcher who had an overwhelming passion for speed. Today, the high-performance AMG vehicles represent the ultimate definition of speed and power with a global presence in the international motorsport arena, including the current position as the Formula One World Championship winner (the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team) for 2014.
The popularity of Mercedes-AMG vehicles in the region is also reflected in the company’s global sales results, with the Middle East one of the biggest markets for AMG cars worldwide. One in ten Mercedes-Benz cars sold in the region is an AMG model. Middle East results for 2014 recorded an increase in sales of 25 per cent for AMG models. The extensive Mercedes-AMG portfolio continues to grow with the latest innovations and technologies developed by the engineering team in Affalterbach and more exciting launches scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.
