Scaling up the value chain
Al Jazeera Steel Products Co’ sales value increased significantly from RO96.6mn in 2017 to RO116.1mn in 2018
Al Jazeera Steel Products Co sells four different types of steel products. The company maintained an average monthly sale of 34,545 tonnes in 2018, marginally higher than 2017 which stood at 33,311 tonnes per month. Sales value increased significantly from RO96.6mn in 2017 to RO116.1mn in the year 2018. The increase in sales value is mainly on account of increase in sales volumes and increase in the sales price.
The tube mill division currently has a production capacity of 300,000 tonnes per annum, which include 90,000 tonnes of galvanised products per annum. During the year, tube mill division produced and sold 194,329 MT in 2018 as compared 189,720 MT in the previous year. The company was able to achieve higher volumes in spite of slackness in the market by diversifying its markets and making more intense sales pitches.
In the MBM division, Al Jazeera was able to substantially increase its volumes by fully leveraging two shift operations. In 2018, the company sold 220,212 tonnes as against 210,012 tonnes of products in 2017. The current capacity utilisation of the mill stands at approximately 73 per cent, up from approximately 70 per cent in 2017.
Skilled workforce
The total employee strength is 640. One of the ways in which the company improves its competence in the present market is through employee training and personal development. The trained and skilled workforce, along with their hard work, has contributed towards the enhancement of productivity and sales. The company’s Omanisation stands at 40 per cent.
The company considers health and safety of its employees to be of the utmost importance. Adequate safety measures have been implemented at the plants of the company for the prevention of accidents with formation of shop‐floor level safety committees and an apex committee that meets every month.
