Here’s why travelling solo should be numero uno in 2019

Your bags are packed, the tickets are booked. You are all set to go on a backpacking trip with your friend to South East Asia in 2019. And then you get the dreadful news that she’s got an emergency and won’t be able to make it.
So, should you cancel the trip? We say, absolutely not. In fact, travelling solo could be a blessing in disguise for you. And this is why it should be on top of your list in 2019
A more confident you
Travelling solo can be empowering because you are calling the shots when it comes to the food, itinerary and destinations. Plus, facing challenges on the way like language or cultural barriers will teach you vital life lessons. Think of it this way, if you’re an introvert, situations like these will help boost your confidence and come out of your shell. If nothing else, you will walk away with a deeper understanding of yourself.
‘Me’ time in a social media world
In a world where social media has intruded our private lives, it is important to step back and indulge in some ‘me’ time. A solo trip is the perfect time to reflect on your life, recharge your creative batteries and set new goals for the year ahead. It also gives you the perfect opportunity to do solo activities like bungee jumping, zip lining across valleys or some scuba diving. Me time can be adventurous too.
Social networking, offline
The world is a social playground. And we are not talking about social networks online. One of the best aspects of travelling solo is that you get to meet new people from different cultures and traditions. Meeting them opens up new perspectives, opportunities and experiences, which in turn, makes you grow as an individual.
Become a better life manager
Travelling solo can make you a better manager. How, you ask? It’s quite straightforward really. When you’re travelling by yourself, every single decision that you need to make, be it finance, accommodation, clothes or transport, needs to be thought through carefully (especially if your on a shoestring budget). And since you’ll have no company and limited resources, it will help you to chart out a plan that helps you make the most of what you have got rather than depending on a third person.
How has travelling solo helped you as a person? We’d love to hear your travel stories.
