Infiniti, the fastest growing premium automotive brand in the region, recently launched the latest enhanced version of their flagship full size SUV, the new 2015 QX80 across the region, including Oman.
For the coming model year, the Infiniti QX80 full-size luxury SUV offers a fresh new exterior design, a more crafted interior, additional standard features and technology and will come in two Grade levels – QX80 Excellence Grade and QX80 Luxury Grade, both with the option of seven or eight seats.
Juergen Schmitz, managing director, Infiniti Middle East, said, “We are very pleased to launch our new 2015 QX80 full size SUV across the Middle East. The new model further enhances the First Class, Every Day character familiar to current QX80 owners and takes it to even greater heights. We have introduced significant changes to the QX80, that give it a more muscular and poised stance from the outside, while a host of new features inside deliver supreme comfort for up to eight passengers alongside the latest safety technologies, which include forward collision warning and predictive forward emergency braking.”
Journalists in Oman got a chance to test drive the new model on Muscat roads. The extensive exterior design refinements focus on the QX80’s frontend appearance, with new upper grille shape and added lower grille. The revised front fascia also features new LED high/low beam headlights, LED turn signals, LED fog lights and a new bumper with flush-mounted sonar sensors.
In the rear of the QX80, a larger, standard bumper protector helps reduce potential damage when loading or unloading recreational gear or bulky cargo. There are also three new exterior colors among the seven total color choices: Hermosa Blue, Graphite Shadow and Majestic White. One new wheel design is also added –14-spoke 22-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels available with the optional 22-inch tire and wheel Package.
The 2015 QX80’s interior refinements and revised grade level content reflect input from current owners, who have requested greater visual differentiation between colour/wood trim offerings and more choices in the optional technology groupings. Two interior colour atmospheres are available – wheat or graphite leather-appointed seating – along with two interior finisher colors. The previous Tuscan Burl trim has been replaced with a Mocha Burl with a heavier, richer and more reddish wood grain on the excellence grade, while a new Stratford Burl is available on the Luxury Grade.
Several new technologies have been added for 2015, starting with the advanced high beam assist and predictive forward collision warning (PFCW) systems. The high beam assist headlight function, which is standard on all models, utilises a forward camera to read oncoming or upcoming traffic and automatically dips the high beams to the low beam setting. The high beam setting is restored when the traffic is clear.
The Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) system, which comes as standard on the Luxury Grade, warns the driver of risks that lie beyond the driver’s forward field of vision. It not only can sense the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead, but also of a vehicle travelling in front of the preceding one. Also added are standard three-blink one-touch turn signals.
An extensive suite of advance safety systems is standard with the QX80 Luxury Grade including front emergency braking and front collision warning system, alongside available features such as blind spot warning, blind spot intervention, lane departure warning (LDW) and lane departure prevention (LDP).
As in previous years, all 2015 Infiniti QX80s include a high-stiffness frame structure that enhances ride comfort while reducing noise, vibration and harshness. The 5.6-liter V8 engine combines the responsive acceleration of Infiniti’s VVEL (variable valve event & lift) technology with the efficiency of direct injection gasoline (DIG) to produce 400 horsepower and 560Nm of torque. A smooth seven-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models. The 2015 QX80 is offered in two Grade levels: QX80 Excellence Grade and QX80 Luxury Grade, with seven seat and eight seat options available in both.
