Explosion Of Petroleum Tankers In Mussaffah Claim 3 Lives: Abu Dhabi Police

Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) have confirmed explosions of three petroleum tankers leading to fatalities in the industrial city of Mussaffah.
Three expat workers on the scene – two Indians and one Pakistani – were reported dead in the explosion that resulted from three petroleum tankers catching fire in the Mussaffah ICAD 3 area near the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
The resulting fire was brought under control – but six more people have sustained mild to moderate injuries.
ADP have confirmed that the “relevant authorities” are launching an investigation into the incident.
While more details are awaited, OERLive has learnt that a minor fire also broke out in an area corresponding to the construction of the new Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The fire was reportedly caused by small flying objects, potentially from drones. The news is yet to be confirmed by the authorities to the press; however, ADP has stated that two “flying objects fell into the two areas just before the fires started”.
In a separate statement issued by the ADP, it was said: “The competent authorities began an extensive investigation into the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it. Besides the loss of lives, there are no other significant damages resulting from the two accidents.”
Abu Dhabi-based airline, Etihad, has reported a disruption in a “small number” of flights. As per a spokesperson from the airline, the disruption in services was due to precautionary measures to ensure the safety of guests and crew.
