Omantel launches Generation Z initiative to empower young talents

Omantel, the pioneering national company in providing integrated telecom services in the Sultanate— continues to make headway with the “Generation Z” initiative; a unique, intensive and interactive training programme which lasts for one year, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme is designed to build the necessary skills for enabling new generations of young Omanis to participate in building the future of Oman by securing them a practical learning environment, monitoring challenges and providing them with solutions.
Commenting on the initiative, Ibtihal Mohammed Al-Riyami, General Manager of Organization Planning at Omantel, said, “Omantel has been devoting its due attention to the future capacity-building as well as enhancing the skills of young Omani talents who will play a key role in building the future of the Sultanate. This will consequently help in supplying various sectors across the Sultanate with well-qualified young Omanis capable of leading the Sultanate towards the future. The launching of this program comes as part of Omantel’s corporate social responsibility and ongoing efforts to empower Omani youth and discover new talents through an intensive training program.”
“Through this program, we seek to create a new generation of young talents and leaders and equip them with a wide range of skills that help them achieve success in their work environment. Most important of these skills are innovation, professional performance and keenness to achieve excellence,” added Al-Riyami.
Al-Riyami also pointed out that, “Coinciding with Covid-19 pandemic, generation “Z” program kicked off last March. However, the program continued with its training plan that witnessed the transition to distance training in order to ensure the safety of the young trainees who are receiving distance training and learning via latest digital technologies provided by Omantel. Over the past few months, the trainees have shown persistence in receiving training at home and keenness on benefitting from the program despite the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “Generation Z” programme planning began since late 2019. This was followed by a competition which was held to select a group of graduates who would participate in a one-year paid training program which was initiated since last March. The program is focused on the key principles of leadership building as well as enhancing the trainees’ skills of interacting, analyzing and distance learning via online courses covering various fields. This is in addition to the submission of a quarterly project on technical alternatives and solutions relating to specific subjects and fields of concern to different sectors.
Omantel adopts a long-term vision that aims at actively contributing to building the future of the Sultanate via investing in the ICT sector in order to deliver its services to the entire parts of the Sultanate and connect them locally and globally. Omantel is the pioneering telecommunications company in the sultanate and the primary provider of integrated internet services for individuals, companies and government agencies. The company strives to promote growth and prosperity in all sectors of the Sultanate, along with providing a new concept of businesses and bringing in the global content and means of entertainment.
