Design Group Engineering Consultants is all set to sponsor and conduct a FIDE-rated International Chess Tournament from 26th to 29th January, 2022, at the Mall of Oman in Bausher.

The tournament is being held under the auspices of the Oman Chess Committee led by Mr. Ahmed Darwish Al Bulushi the Chairman. Mr. Musallam Salim Al Wadhahi will be the Chief Arbiter; and a passionate Chess lover and trainer from India, Mr. V.U. Divakar will be the Tournament Director.

This tournament will see the light with initiatives from several parents of young chess stars across the globe. Prominent among them are Dr. Raj Mohan, Dinesh Sawlani, Raghavesh Dhandapani, Priyanka Bansal, Pankaj Goel, Karthikeyan Jaya Chandran, Ashwini Katti, and V.U. Divakar.

The Managing Director of Design Group, Damodar Katti, who is also the sponsor of the first-of-its-kind event in Oman, released the brochure while sharing excerpts on the event details.

Several players from Oman, the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Jamaica, UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar are expected to participate.

Fifteen cash prizes and age category medals will be distributed.

Mr. Damodar opined: “Omani children are now getting quite competitive – thanks to the unceasing efforts being put in by the Oman Chess Committee.”

It is to this end that the tournament is being sponsored by the Design Group. This is going to be the beginning of a great chapter of cooperation between Oman and the expatriate community in the field of chess.
