Muscat: The fourth edition of the Roca One Day Design Challenge in association with the Khimji Ramdas Group in Oman will take place on the 9th October, this year in an online format. After attracting over 100 participants at national level in 2019, the competition promises to once again test the imagination and skill of hundreds of students and professional designers and architects under the age of 30 from all over the country. They will be challenged to create innovative solutions for the bathroom space that can contribute towards a more sustainable and conscious future.
Registration for Roca One Day Design Challenge 2021 is open until 11:59 p.m. (UTC+4) on 6th October 2021. Interested participants can log on to www.onedaydesignchallenge.net to register.
Roca One Day Design Challenge reflects the brand’s commitment to talent, innovation and sustainability, aiming to promote the role of design in the efforts to tackle our world’s current challenges, such as the climate emergency and the new social realities around the globe.
In light of the restrictions imposed by the current pandemic, the 4th Oman edition of this international competition will be held online, a way to continue to fulfill its goal of giving visibility to young talents and promoting access to professional opportunities. Roca thus reaffirms its commitment to the initiative, with new editions of Roca One Day Design Challenge confirmed in 12 countries this year.
The projects will be evaluated by a jury comprised of renowned professionals from the world of design and architecture: Arch. Mohammed Y. Assaf, Managing Director AEB-Assaf, Mr. Fadi El Sibai, Managing Director Designers and Architects LLC (D&A LLC) Oman, Ms. Falguni Madan, Senior Deisgn Manager – Al Mouj, Ms. Zeny Liz B. Gutierrez, Head of Interior Design Dept. – Amjaad Engg Consultancy and Mr. Luc Siezenis, Country Manager Roca Sanitario S.A. Middle East.
Organisation and Registration:
Roca One Day Design Challenge is organised in a time trial format, inviting young designers and architects to prove the value of their ideas for the bathroom space in the course of one intense day. On 9th October, participants will have to create projects based on a briefing given at 9am on the official @rocachallenge Instagram page, racing against the clock to upload them on the competition’s website until 5.00pm. The winners will then be announced at 7:30 pm on Instagram. The awards ceremony will take place subsequently at Khimji Ramdas Infra Campus at Ghala, Oman.
Roca One Day Design Challenge is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, crucial to the conception and execution of any design project nowadays. Projects presented in competition must necessarily promote solutions that are at the service of a more sustainable future.
The winning project will receive a prize of 600 OMR and there are additional prizes of 400 OMR and 200 OMR for the second and third-placed entries.
A global competition
Roca One Day Design Challenge was born in Spain in 2012 and has since rapidly expanded worldwide. Even though the pandemic affected the 2020 editions, with most having to be cancelled (Portugal being an exception given its early date), in 2021 competitions have already been confirmed in 12 countries: Portugal, Poland, Russia, Argentina, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Oman, UAE and Spain (Madrid and Barcelona). In the countries where it is not possible to do a live event, the contest will be held virtually.
