Snoonu Enters Omani Market Through Acquisition Of Local Food Delivery Brand Akeed
Snoonu, a leading technology company in Qatar, has announced the acquisition of Omani food delivery platform Akeed for US$10mn.
News of the new acquisition was announced at the Snoonu Gala that was hosted at Sheraton Doha, in Qatar, yesterday [May 28].
As per a source, this new acquisition is a ‘new journey’ for Snoonu in Oman and the first of its kind investment for the company outside Qatar.
Hamad Mubarak al-Hajri, the CEO and co-founder of Snoonu, was quoted by local media at the event as saying that the acquisition was a decision they took based on Akeed’s excellent reputation as one of the leading food delivery platforms in Oman.
Akeed’s CEO, Gaurav Anil Nahar, was also quoted as saying: “The company is pleased to conclude this agreement with Snoonu. We look forward to a future vision that brings us in the Sultanate of Oman the latest in e-commerce and the logistics sector.”
Akeed is one of Oman’s homegrown online food delivery mobile applications which entered the local tech scene in 2018. The company was especially hailed for its efforts in keeping the food and beverage sector in the Sultanate running at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2021, Akeed raised US$2.5mn in a Series A round backed by Omani investment company Phaze Ventures and IDO (Sovereign Fund).
