New Decision Issued To Regulate Licensing Of National Product’s Identity
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion issued Ministerial Decision No. 62/2023 regulating the licensing of the national product’s identity.
The decision seeks to establish a unified national framework for Omani products. Besides unifying the products’ marketing identities, the decision is aimed at augmenting competitiveness, enhancing the In-Country Value (ICV) of national products and raising local and foreign consumers’ awareness of Omani products.
Article (2) of the decision states that all establishments and companies must harmonise their status accordingly, within 180 days from the date the decision came into effect. It requires each to obtain a license from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to use the national product identity.
The Ministry recently launched the international numbering system (barcode) for Omani goods and products under code number (607). The barcode’s launch seeks to streamline Omani exports’ access to global markets and facilitate the electronic sale and marketing of Omani products.
