Here’s What We Know About ‘Aber’, Oman’s First Digital Meter for Taxis Launching Soon

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) will begin the activation of digital meters to determine the transportation tariff for public taxi in the Sultanate. The activation of “Aber” digital meters will start on June 1st, 2023.
Through the application of ‘Aber’, MTCIT aims to regulate and standardise the activity of taxis in Oman, in accordance with implementation of modern digital technologies and provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 195/2018 issued on December 26, 2018 regarding determining the transportation tariff for public taxis in the Sultanate of Oman.
The application evaluates the use of roaming taxi drivers and calculates the distance and time traveled per trip and also determines the total cost of the trip.
