UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourned the death of his brother. Rulers of other emirates also offered condolences.

“My deepest condolences to Al Nahyan family and the people of the UAE on the death of Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed. Zayed’s sons have an immortal imprint in the UAE, and hence their love is in the hearts of all Emiratis. Zayed’s sons are founding partners who will never be forgotten. May Allah rest the soul of Sheikh Sultan in peace and grant us and UAE people patience and solace,” His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted.

“Today I lost my brother and one of the UAE’s loyal statesmen and one of its national symbols. He worked with the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed, to lay down the foundations of the Union’s institutions and serve his people. May Allah rest the soul of Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in peace, and grant us patience and solace to bear this great loss,” His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, described Sheikh Sultan as one of the country’s “most loyal men”.

“With the death of Sheikh Sultan, the UAE has lost one of its most loyal men, who escorted the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, since the early journey of establishing the Union,” he said in a statement carried by state news agency WAM. “With his departure, we recall the long journey of building our nation, during which Sheikh Sultan accompanied the generation of our founding fathers.”
