Oman’s Government Reveals Plan For National Vaccination Drive

Muscat: In a move that will surely have a hugely positive impact on the country’s people and economy, the government revealed their strategy for immunization which, will cover a massive 70% of the population, in multiple phases, including people aged 12 years.
More than 205,000 doses of vaccines arrived on Saturday, last week and their numbers will be further boosted with the additional arrival of a combined total of nearly 150,000 vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca. Bader bin Saif al Rawahi, Director of the Infectious Diseases Control Department at the Ministry of Health stated that he expects vaccines to arrive in the country at a rate of 200,000 doses per week, on the basis of multiple procurement orders that have been placed.
The nation has already witnessed a concerted drive for the vaccination of GED students, with nearly half of the total number being covered as of today. The upcoming phases will target frontline healthcare workers in the private sector, Public administrative services, and military will follow up alongside the drive for residents aged 45 and above which, commences in the third week of July.
The government is also, planning on utilizing mobile vaccination centers for remote locations in other governorates.
