Oman To Begin Parcel Deliveries In Muscat Using Drones

The future is now. And coming to the Governorate of Muscat this year is the Jetsons era, complete with unmanned flying drones undertaking delivery services across sectors.
A joint initiative between the Governorate of Muscat and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and IT, these new drones will be used to fulfill deliveries among a ‘number of goals and objectives’. However, parcel delivery will remain its primary target.
It is understood that these drones can be used for the daily delivery of postal parcels and requests for goods, merchandise, food, and other items.
OERLive also learns that the service is being launched by the company UVL Robotics – a US-based company offering cutting-edge drone-based solutions with AI for logistics with operations in Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe.
The project was announced by the Deputy Governor of Muscat, His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, who in a statement to media was quoted as saying: “This project coincides with the announcement of Muscat as the Arab Digital Capital for 2022, where the Sultanate’s candidacy file came under the slogan – A digital future that creates opportunities.”
As per the Governor, the first phase will aim to deliver parcels to residents in the Muscat Bay residential complex and tourist areas; albeit, expansion is on cards, with deliveries slated for Yeti, Yanket, Al Khiran, and Al Sifah.
The project intends to deliver parcels efficiently in regions that are far from service centers and have increased cost and time for delivery.
