Kuwait Emir Appoints New Government, including first woman FM
Kuwait has formally appointed the 14-member cabinet on Tuesday, a month after the resignation of the previous government. Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah signed a decree approving the new government chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, reported the country’s state media KUNA.
Mariam Al-Aqeel was appointed as the finance minister, the first female in the Gulf region to hold the post.
Khaled al-Fadhel continued to be the Oil Minister. Ahmad Mansour al-Ahmad al-Sabah has been appointed as the Defence Minister, Anas Khaled Nasser al-Saleh as the Interior Minister, and Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah as the Foreign Affairs Minister.

Addressing the new ministers after taking oath, the Emir urged them to double efforts to accelerate process of development and construction in order to meet aspirations of citizens. He further asked them to abide by the constitution and law as well as protect public funds.

The 36th government in Kuwait’s political history, and the first one led by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s – the eighth Prime Minister of the Gulf nation.
The row erupted over alleged mishandling of public funds between the ruling family and the parliament in the Gulf nation, leading to the exit of the previous government. The cabinet resignations followed after lawmakers sought a no-confidence motion against the Interior Minister.
