Duqm Projects To Receive Massive Power Grid Upgrade With RO 22 Million Upgrade
Muscat: The Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer), is pumping in RO 22 million for the expansion and upgrade of the electricity grid in and around the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This upgrade is planned for the benefit of multiple existing and upcoming projects.
All in all, a total of five network sectors are being developed by Tanweer, this year. This includes the expansion of the existing Duqm North Switching Station and Duqm South primary substation, which is due to be completed shortly. These upgrades will help meet the complete power requirements of the industrial, commercial, tourism and residential sectors of the SEZ.
In addition, Tanweer is in the process of laying cables with 33kV capacity, in a bid to interconnect its sub – stations in the North and South of Duqm. Also, three key primary substations are being constructed in the Fisheries Industries Area, Industries Zone and the Showroom Area, and the Heavy Industries Zone.
Tanweer is also, involved with electrical network works with regards to “Project Rabt” – a strategic initiative to link the Main Interconnection System (MIS) of North Oman with Dhofar electricity transmission network. The project will bring Duqm into the national grid as a priority goal. To support this initiative, Tanweer has floated a tender to interconnect its 33kV distribution system with the 400kV line from the Main Interconnection System (MIS) that connects the north of the Sultanate.
“Tanweer aims to develop and enhance the electrical infrastructure in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm To serve the aspirations and needs of current and future investors, especially in light of the extensive investment facilities provided by the Sultanate for investments located in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and other free zones and Special Economic Zones,” the company said in a statement.
