Black – Box Recovered From Stricken Ship In Sri Lankan Waters
The Voyage Data Recorder – commonly known as the ‘Black – Box’, of the Singapore, registered merchant ship, MV X – Press has been located according to the authorities.
The ship, carrying a large cargo of chemicals and plastic products, went up in flames due to a leak of Nitric Acid, which it was carrying onboard. This has led to the ship burning continuously for nearly 2 weeks before firefighting efforts of the Sri Lankan and Indian Navies brought the inferno under control.
There is significant public outrage at the authorities who allowed the cargo vessel into territorial waters despite being rejected by ports in Qatar and India, who had identified the leak earlier and directed the ship away.
