In addition, the week will discuss the challenges facing the industrial sector and draw up plans for the next phase.
The event will also serve as a platform for CEOs to engage with H.E. Dr. Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry to discuss challenges, opportunities, and the way forward.
Industrial Strategy 2040
The manufacturing sector has been one of the key industries slated to drive Oman’s economic diversification efforts. The push to increase manufacturing investment is further supported by the government plans to quicken the pace of privatisation.
In August 2019, MOCI launched phase two of the Industrial Strategy 2040, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Phase two aims at identifying the policies and tools required for the successful implementation of the strategy.
Phase one outlined the status of the sector and identified key elements to drive the sector forward. Phase two sets timelines and roadmaps on how to achieve the strategy, according to Eng. Sami Salim al Sahib, Director General of Industry, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
According to the Director General of Industry, Phase two also aims at improving cooperation between government entities and offices through outlining roles and responsibilities and drafting laws and regulations that support developing services related to manufacturing.
