One year ago, the Ministry of Health (MOH) embarked on the search for the best private health establishments in the country. A series of strict criteria were set to determine which clinics and hospitals maintained top standards in a constantly developing arena. The public was invited to vote for their preferred private establishment.

The Award Ceremony

The award ceremony was held on the 1st of July 2019 under the patronage of Dr. Ali Bin Taleb Al– Hinai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning Affairs among honorable members from MOH. Top officials and guests were requested to vote live in each category.

Muscat Eye Laser Center (MELC) was conferred the Best Specialized Clinic award and Dr. Juan Arbelaez, Cornea and Refractive Specialist and Associate Scientific Director, won one of the top 3 Best Researcher in Oman. There are 295 clinics in the private sector in the Sultanate and from those who decided to participate, MELC was chosen the winner.

He has published articles in renowned International Journals and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Cornea Journal. Dr. Arbealez has also received international awards in recognition of his contributions to Ophthalmology.
