Sultanate’s first environment-themed hackathon concludes

Green Innovation Eco-Thon – organised by Nama Group and Environment Society of Oman (ESO) – has concluded successfully.
The three-day event, which has the distinction of being the Sultanate’s first environment-themed hackathon, tested the wit and technical prowess of 105 students, who teamed up to create innovative digital solutions to environmental challenges like waste management, renewable energy and alternatives, as well as energy and water efficiency.
The chosen candidates, selected out of a pool of 481 applicants from higher educational institutions across the country, competed for prizes including cash and potential sponsorship opportunities. They had to develop their ideas into viable software or applications. The final projects were evaluated on criteria including originality, feasibility, scalability, economic value, viability of environmental solution and a good marketing plan, according to a press release.
