Otaxi App Service Licence Granted To Female Drivers; Operations To Begin This Week In Oman
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology gave approval to Aalam A’ssahab (Clouds World) company to provide female taxi service via their Otaxi app.
The newly-issued license allows female drivers/operators to offer taxi services to customers, further enhancing privacy and security for women travelers in the Sultanate.
As per a statement issued by Oman News Agency (ONA), these new women taxis will be distinguished by a new colour scheme; namely, white or pink.
The on-demand taxi-hailing app allows customers to make both immediate and advance bookings for their journeys. The service further offers online tracking of taxi routes at fixed prices set prior to the start of trips.
The service will also provide employment opportunities for female jobseekers, allowing them to work as taxi drivers or, as per ONA, to earn additional income (while on queue for jobs).
Female Otaxi services will be launched in Muscat Governorate on 20 January 2022, as a part of its first phase, and later generalised across other governorates.
