New Resolution Regarding Employment For Juveniles Issued

Muscat: The Minister of Labour, Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, issued a Ministerial Resolution 115/2021 regarding part-time employment for juveniles.
The decision is based on multiple decrees and resolutions which are geared towards public interest in the sphere of employing the youth of Oman. Few of the resolutions issued, include Labour Law issued by Royal Decree 35/2003, and Royal Decree 89/2020, establishing the Ministry of Labour and determining its terms of reference and the adoption of its organizational structure; Ministerial Resolution 217/2016 regarding the system of employment of juveniles and the businesses and professions in which they may be employed; Ministerial Resolution 40/2017 regarding the organization of part-time work, and based on what is required by the public interest.
Article 1 states that those eligible are GED students enrolled in public or private schools, those not less than 15 years of age, and jobs listed by the Ministry of Manpower.
The employment can take place only during breaks after semester exams with approval from parents. The decision states that the wages and the working hours of the employees will be determined by both parties through a contract.
Article 2 states that the decision 40/2017 is repealed, as well as everything that contradicts this decision or contravenes its provisions.
Article Three: This decision shall be published in the Official Gazette, and come into force from the day following the date of its publication.
