Finance and Investment Hype Among 18 to 24-year-olds: 83% Using Finance Apps, Shareholder Ratio Almost Doubles

- 83% of 18 to 24-year-olds using finance apps
- Users across all age groups amount to 56%
- Just 10% of Germans were active on a finance app in 2016
- Corona crisis driving demand
- Shareholder ration among 18 to 25-year-olds is 39%, a rise of 15% since 2017
83% of 18 to 24-year-olds are using finance apps. As a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de shows, young adults are more and more interested in the topic of financial investments. This is not least reflected in a strong increase in the shareholder ratio.
Across all age groups, 56% of German citizens aged 18 and over are using finance apps. The proportion decreases with increasing age. Nonetheless, 29% of over-65s have such applications. This is a relatively new trend: in 2016, just 10% of Germans were active on such an application.
Meanwhile, a glance at Google search queries reveals a peak in demand for investment apps in early March. As the infographics show, people are also putting their money where their mouth is. Today 34% of German citizens own shares, compared to just 24% three years ago.
The shareholder ratio is highest among 45 to 54 year olds and 18 to 24 year olds, amounting to 39% in each case. However, the proportion of new shareholders was still significantly lower in 2017, rising by 15 percentage points over the past 3 years.
“The subject of investment is becoming a growing focus for Germans, especially among young adults,” observes Kryptoszene analyst Raphael Lulay. “The corona crisis has further intensified the trend – not least due to the opportunities that numerous investors sensed in the sharp falls on the stock market”.
