Omantel has been voted as the leading investor relations company in Oman.
Omantel, has been voted as the Best Company for Investor Relations in Oman, at the Fifth Annual Middle East Investor Relations Survey, undertaken by Thomson Reuters Extel, in partnership with the Middle East Investor Relations Society (ME-IRS).
Omantel also figured in the top three corporates in the overall Grand Prix among leading corporates for investor relations, seventh ranked company for corporate governance and eighth best investor relations website, in the Middle East.
This is the third time in last five years, that Omantel has been voted as the best company for Investor Relations in Oman. The awards were presented to Omantel at the ME-IR Society Annual Conference, held at Ritz Carlton, DIFC, Dubai. The Annual Conference and Awards ceremony is the ME-IR Society’s flagship event. The awards recognise the efforts of those regional companies and IR professionals who play a critical role in developing best investor relation practices across the Middle East.
Criterion for judging
The finalists for the award were selected using feedback from a Thomson Reuters Extel Survey which gathered votes from 336 individuals from 139 organisations, based in the Middle East, US, the UK and continental Europe. The individuals include sell-side analysts covering stocks in the region and buy-side analysts who invest in the region.
Commenting on the Award, Talal Said Al Mamari, CFO, Omantel said: “We are proud to win the award for Oman against other leading companies and organisations in the Sultanate. We are equally delighted to be recognised among the top three organisations in the MENA region among 125 organisations that were surveyed.” He said Omantel Investor Relations programme is built on ‘trust’ and ‘transparency’ values of the company. Omantel’s management strives to continuously raise disclosure and investor communication standards to the levels required by local, regional and global investors. This award recognises the leadership position of Omantel in the field of investor relations in the Omani market and it complements recent initiatives undertaken by the company such as obtaining high corporate rating by two of the largest credit agencies in the world (Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s)
Investor relations has become increasingly important for Omantel since it became a private company in 1999 and the listing on Muscat Securities Market in 2005, the year when the telecommunications industry in Oman was opened up for competition.
