In an exclusive interview with OERLive, Amr Baabood, Group CEO of OITE, outlines how Oman Climate Week aims to bring government, industry, investors, researchers and innovators together to translate the Sultanate of Oman’s climate ambitions into tangible action.

Oman Climate Week is being positioned as a platform where conversations around sustainability can move beyond targets and commitments towards partnerships, investment and implementation, according to Amr Baabood, Group CEO of OITE.

Speaking to OERLive ahead of the event, Baabood said: “Oman Climate Week is ultimately about moving from climate ambition to climate action.” He further highlighted the importance of bringing different stakeholders together, noting that the climate transition cannot happen in isolation and requires policy, technology, finance and people to work collectively.

Taking place at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) from September 14–16, Oman Climate Week will combine an exhibition with strategic and scientific conferences, the Women in Climate Forum, Youth in Climate, Ecothon, masterclasses, workshops, business matchmaking and the Deals Hub.

Discussions across the three-day event will address areas particularly relevant to Oman and the wider region, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, circular economy and waste management, water security, climate finance, carbon markets, biodiversity and smart sustainable cities.

For Baabood, however, the impact of Oman Climate Week will ultimately be determined by what follows the event. “The real measure of success is what happens after Oman Climate Week,” he told OERLive, pointing to partnerships being formed, ideas developing into viable solutions, investment opportunities being created and knowledge being translated into action.”

The broader ambition, he added, is to strengthen Oman’s position not simply as a participant in the international climate conversation, but as a destination where climate solutions can be put into practice.

With Oman working towards its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, Oman Climate Week seeks to provide a meeting point for the stakeholders, technologies, capital and ideas that could contribute to delivering that transition.
